Frequently Asked Questions About Us
What is a periodontist?
A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in treating the gums and supporting tissues. As a periodontist, Dr. Samuel DeAngelo is specially equipped to treat gum disease
(also called periodontal disease, and includes gingivitis and periodontitis) as well as gum recession. Dr. DeAngelo also replaces missing teeth with dental implants
to restore beauty and function, and improve oral health.
What is periodontal disease, gingivitis, and periodontitis?
Periodontal disease occurs when bacteria begin to erode the connection between the gums and the teeth. If left unchecked, this can destroy the bone that supports the teeth and eventually lead to tooth loss. Gingivitis is an early stage, while periodontitis is a more advanced stage of periodontal disease.
How do I know if I have periodontal disease?
Some of the symptoms of periodontal disease include the following:
- Gums that bleed when brushing or flossing
- Red, irritated gum tissues
- Chronic bad breath
- Gum recession
- Loose adult teeth
Should I consider dental implants?
Dental implants are, in most cases, the preferred replacement for missing teeth. Unlike traditional dental bridges and dentures, dental implants integrate into the jaw bone for a natural and life-long replacement of your missing teeth. Dr. DeAngelo would be happy to discuss with you how dental implants can improve your life.
